This brand new 640x480" IPS screen kit for the Sega Nomad is made by Hispeedido (our go to screen makers if we haven't yet made a CleanScreen).
The screen is the same display size as the original screen, with a wide viewing angle up to 178 degrees.
🕹️ Sega Nomad Hispeedido IPS screen install guide
The Hispeedido kit is a big step up in image quality on the Sega Nomad. It is a detailed job that rewards patience and a steady hand, so set aside plenty of time and work slowly.
Take out all the screws on the back of the case with a Gamebit screwdriver. Separate the front housing from the rear case, then unscrew the main board and lift it out. Desolder the ribbon for the old LCD, the heavy, dim screen you are replacing.
While the board is out, recap it. The Nomad is well known for leaking capacitors, so replace the caps on both the main board and the sub-board before you fit the new screen. It is far easier to do now than after everything is back together.
Hispeedido does not usually supply a mounting bracket for the Nomad, so you will need a 3D-printed Nomad IPS bracket. Sit the 3.5-inch IPS panel in the bracket and line it up in the screen opening. A little Kapton tape holds the driver board against the back of the panel while you work.
The flex cable in the kit carries all the hook-up points you need. From there you solder roughly 20 wires straight to the Nomad's motherboard, covering both signal and power, plus the controller inputs so you can move around the on-screen menu.
Getting the wires in the right places is the tricky part, so follow a verified soldering map rather than working it out yourself.
The screen gives you 15 to 16 brightness levels, along with built-in scanlines and retro pixel effects. To open the menu, hold MODE, A and B together for about a second. Press MODE to move between items, and A or B to change a setting.

Luke
Retro Enthusiast
RetroSix is a family run business led by Luke, who has been in the gaming industry and retail business since 2013, and sold consoles, controllers and even designed our own controllers and consoles.
We repair and upgrade consoles while showing them off on our social channels such as TikTok.
We sell products for restoring your own consoles should you wish to do it yourself, including many of our own hardware we design and manufacture in-house.
Finally, we print directly onto products to create unique one-off designs of things like Game Boys, Game Gears and anything that has a relatively flat surface we can print on. Checkout our Printed Products sections to buy some or design your very own.
We started RetroSix not as a mass market business, instead with the aim of perfection. Recreating moulds of original shells, casting them from quality ABS, redesigning hardware such as power supplies, USB-C, audio and more, to upgrade your consoles to the highest quality available. No cheap junk sold for profit.
Partners
We believe partnering with other likeminded companies is a great way to help each other out and ultimately make products that are better for the end consumer.
Of course, we sell and ship worldwide direct from source if you would like to purchase direct from anywhere in the world.
