The PlayStation 2 received widespread critical acclaim upon release. A total of over 4,000 game titles were released worldwide, with over 1.527 billion copies sold. In 2004, Sony revised the console with a smaller, lighter body officially known as the Slimline, popularly called the "PS2 Slim". Even after the release of its successor, the PlayStation 3, it remained popular well into the seventh generation.
For the disc drive you have an option to save a little cash if you plan to upgrade to FreeMcBoot (loading from USB/SD card).
As the age of the consoles continues to increase and the performance of the original lasers deteriorates it is harder to source working disc drives. This can bump the cost of the console up. As most customers choose to upgrade to FreeMcBoot meaning you don't really need the drive to function, we offer a lower base price with a non-functioning (or at least not guaranteed) disc drive.
If you choose a working drive, by default they will be locked to Japan (our current stock is Japan stock). If you want to play all region discs you can choose to have it region unlocked.
A popular option is to have a modded console to allow you to load games from USB/SD card instead of disc. Selecting this option the console will come fully setup, including the storage (USB or SD) setup and some samples on the drive.
Simply insert the provided memory card (FreeMcBoot) and USB or SD card to load from that.
This does what it says on the tin. Upgrades the output from composite (those old yellow, red and white round connectors) to modern HDMI.
If your monitor does not support the old composite video, you might be best getting the HDMI upgrade.
The basic version is perfect HDMI output without some of the advanced features than Shiny offers. This Shiny option can be purchased separately by yourself through the WiFi (yes the HDMI mod has WiFi webpage built in!) whenever you like after purchase without needing any special tools and doesn't require you to open the console up.
Personally, I would run with Basic unless you want the extra features. Check out the features here.
You can purchase the console as is, with no extras, or you can have all the things you need such as power and video leads, controllers and memory cards.

Retro Enthusiast
RetroSix is a family run business led by Luke, who has been in the gaming industry and retail business since 2013, and sold consoles, controllers and even designed our own controllers and consoles.
We repair and upgrade consoles while showing them off on our social channels such as TikTok.
We sell products for restoring your own consoles should you wish to do it yourself, including many of our own hardware we design and manufacture in-house.
Finally, we print directly onto products to create unique one-off designs of things like Game Boys, Game Gears and anything that has a relatively flat surface we can print on. Checkout our Printed Products sections to buy some or design your very own.
We started RetroSix not as a mass market business, instead with the aim of perfection. Recreating moulds of original shells, casting them from quality ABS, redesigning hardware such as power supplies, USB-C, audio and more, to upgrade your consoles to the highest quality available. No cheap junk sold for profit.
