The Neo Geo MVS was a success during the 1990s due to the cabinet's low cost, multiple cartridge slots, and compact size. Several successful video game series were released for the platform, such as Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, The King of Fighters, Twinkle Star Sprites and Metal Slug;

The AES had a very niche market in Japan, though sales were very low in the U.S. due to its high price for both the hardware and software, but it has since gained a cult following and is now considered a collectable.

Base Console

The base console is a Neo Geo AES in full working order. The outer case will have wear, tear, markings from age and usage as to be expected.

If you have concerns over the appearance or want a more pristine console you can always get in touch with us, and we can see what we can offer. Otherwise, expect an acceptable but used console casing.

Original Box

On top of this, if this is a gift or you are a collector you might want to choose the boxed version. The condition of the box varies with stock, but we make sure never to send them with very bad boxes, they are always at least acceptable.

Controllers

There are several controllers available for the Neo Geo. The main one is the MAX 330 Mega Joystick. This is the large rectangular joystick.

After this there was a smaller joystick called the Pro Arcade Stick.

As a more typical console style option there is the Pad Controller.

Wireless Controllers

For those wanting to use modern controllers on the Neo Geo, we offer Wireless dongles that plug into the Neo Geo and allow you to use any of your wireless controllers such as PS3/4/5, Xbox One/Series, Switch Pro/Joycons, Wii U, 8bitdo and RetroBit controllers.

NOTE: Wireless controllers not supplied, you use your own.

Memory Card

One amazing thing about the Neo Geo AES was its support for Memory Cards. This is not all that special, until you remember back in the day you could use a memory card in the arcades to save your high scores and progress, then come home and use that exact same memory card in your Neo Geo at home and vice-verse!

Now the arcades are mostly gone, you still want a memory card if you are interested in saving your game high scores or progress.

We offer stock original memory cards with a new internal battery.

Alternatively, a brand-new reproduction memory card that requires no internal battery and has 4 banks to save 4 times as many items.

Power Supply

For powering the Neo Geo AES, you can choose to have no power supply (you will have to supply your own), or we can provide you with a DC power supply for it (UK mains unless otherwise specified).

Optionally, you can have a USB-C CleanPower upgrade, replacing the rear DC jack with a modern USB-C port.

The USB-C mod comes with a cable and UK plug. If you desire different countries plug let us know. You can also use any USB-C power charger or brick you have so long as it can supply 2.1A current.

BIOS

Not the most critical option, however the stock console comes with the stock BIOS. Since the release of the console the most popular new BIOS to be made is called the UniBIOS.

This new BIOS adds features such as changing the region of the console, DIP switch settings (for simulating MVS arcade options), cheat codes and more.

Thermals

Depending on your expected usage, the Neo Geo has survived over 30 years just fine as it is, but with its growing age and the chips onboard becoming more fragile, if you plan to do longer gaming sessions on your Neo Geo, we recommend having heat sinks installed on all major ICs.

This will keep core temperatures down and your console surviving for hopefully another 30 years :D

Video Output

The video output of the Neo Geo AES was composite by default through a composite cable. If you select the stock option, you will receive a composite video cable.

The console also supported RGB output through to SCART. However, the video levels coming out of the console, as well as the old SCART cables were not perfect. As such we offer a CleanRGB SCART cable (ones we have made ourselves) and fixes inside the console to give perfect 100% accurate RGB color, brightness and sharpness.

Finally, if you want to go to HDMI, we can supply the CleanRGB fixes and SCART cable, and a high quality SCART to HDMI output box to allow you to hook this up to your modern TVs perfectly.

Power Button

Getting into purely aesthetics now, some people love a bit of light from their consoles. Especially considering back then a simple power on indictor was not all that common, so we have no way to know if the console is even turned on or not.

The Power LED mod offered allows you to have a red lit power LED when the console is turned on.

Games

Just as expensive as the console are the games. We have several Neo Geo AES games in stock so if you want anything in particular just reach out.

As an option for most other games, we can supply a 161 cartridge that comes with many games pre-loaded.
