We hand-restore old consoles and upgrade them with modern tech
If you want to do a mod but don't like the thought of soldering, or simply don't have the tools and want a quick, easy and safe alternative look no further.
We have sourced the perfect highly conductive glue. With just the glue itself, and a bit of tape (not provided) you can secure down wires onto pads and pins that would require soldering, without soldering anything at all.
Make a mistake, simply wipe it off with rubbing alcohol or IPA and start again.
To use the glue, first tape your desired wire into place. We use electrical tape. Make sure the wire is clean and has the metal exposed (not just the plastic end). Make sure the pad or pin you want to connect it too is clean and shiney. If not, scrape it lightly with the end of some tweezers or other sharp instrument.
If you have rubbing alcohol or IPA its a good idea to clean both the wire and the pad too. The cleaner metal the better the connection.
When taped down, make sure the wire already physically touches the pad/pin. The glue is not desired to hold it into place, simply sit around the two connection points making them electrically joined.
Once the wire is in place, the best thing is to press some conductive glue out onto a piece of paper, then use the needle to scrape some up and place it onto the area to be connected.
Take care not to place the glue on nearby metal shields or other pins or vias (the holes in the board) as you can short together other pins (you don't want that).
Once the glue is in place, leave it for 30 minutes to dry, or use a hair dryer to gently assist in the drying. It will never full "set" hard.
That's all there is to it!
So many things these days are mass produced, not designed to last, and make as cheap as possible for as much money as possible. We started RetroSix not as a mass market business. We are aiming at the small, limited quantity, but hand-build and restored market.
All work, restoration, modifications, improvements and so on are done in the UK, in-house by hand and all attention to detail and care is taken for every order. You can be assured that your order has been inspected not only by a real person but someone who knows about and is excited by gaming and retro, and no sub-par product leaves our doors.
In 2020 we partnered with Hand Held Legend in the USA. I believe partnering with other likeminded companies is a great way to help each other out and ultimately make products that are better for the end consumer. Check them out at https://handheldlegend.com
RetroSix is a small team of people who have been in the gaming industry and retail business since 2013, and sold consoles, controllers and even designed our own controllers and consoles.
Putting that expertise to good use, we decided to start RetroSix; a small team of people passionate about retro gaming, and restoring original consoles to like-new, adding our own twist and style to them and in general bringing a modern twist to retro.
Experience the nostalgia without the limitations of old and outdated hardware.
